The Clerk of the Board’s (COB’s) Office is responsible for managing information regarding Boards, Commissions, and Committees that are either created by the Board of Supervisors and/or that the Board of Supervisors sit on as members. 

Application for Appointment 

The COB’s Office receives the Application for Appointment on behalf of the County Boards, Commissions and Committees. The application is a public document and it is retained for a period of one year. After one year, it is necessary to file a new application for another year of eligibility.

The County of Ventura Local Appointment List is prepared and posted by December 31 of each year in compliance with the Maddy Act, as required by Government Code Section 54972. The report contains a list of appointments for all regular boards, commissions, and committees, appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The report lists all appointed terms which will expire during the next calendar year, in addition to other important information. The names on this list are subject to change based on resignations or terminations that occur during the year and the report will be updated annually. 

As Board/Commission membership and vacancies may change throughout the year after this report is posted, the “Search Board/Committee Info & Members” tab above provides real-time data for each Board and Commission listed. The “Current Vacancies” tab above provides a real-time list of currently vacant positions and positions with expired terms. For the latest information, it is recommended that these functions are utilized, rather than reviewing the below report.

AB-1234 ETHICS TRAINING 

AB-1234 is an Assembly Bill that was passed on October 7, 2005, which requires local officials to receive at least 2 hours of training in general ethics principles and ethics law no later than 1 year from their first day of service and every 2 years thereafter. 

Local officials are required to submit Proof of Participation Certificates to their custodian of record who will maintain it for 5 years. If the custodian of record is the Clerk of the Board's Office, please see the Contact tab for E-mail and mailing address.

Ethics Education

Recommended Course:
Online training is available from the:  Fair Political Practices Commission

This is the preferred/recommended training. This training is provided by the California Fair Political Practices Commission free of charge and will provide a free certificate of completion. Please ensure your certificate indicates that at least 2 hours of training have been completed, prior to submitting to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors' Office.

Alternative Course:
Online Self Study materials available from the:  Institute for Local Government 

This training may include various costs to complete. This training is provided by the Institute for Local Government, which is not a government agency. This website is only provided as an alternative option for those that do not wish to take the training made available by the Fair Political Practices Commission. Please ensure your certificate indicates that at least 2 hours of training have been completed, prior to submitting to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors' Office.

AB-1661 SEXUAL HARASSMENT PREVENTION AND EDUCATION TRAINING

Effective January 1, 2017, AB 1661 requires local agency legislative body members and any elected local agency officials who receive compensation, salary, or stipend in the performance of duties to receive two (2) hours of Sexual Harassment Prevention and Education Training. 

If you serve on one or more boards/commissions that meets the criteria of AB 1661, please contact the Ventura County Executive Office’s Human Resources Training and Development to arrange an online or in-person training.
