Grimes Canyon Aggregate Mines

Release of Grimes Canyon mines Revised Final Environmental Impact Reports

Description:
In June 2009 Final Environmental Impact Reports (FEIRs) were released for CUP 4171 (Best Rock), CUP 4874 (Grimes Rock) and CUP 4571 (Wayne J) (see below).  Based on public comments received regarding the FEIRs a February 2010 Revised FEIR for each project is now available.  In addition, the Environmental Report Review Committee (ERRC) will hold a public hearing on the Revised FEIRs on March 3, 2010 in Room 311 of the County Administrative Building 800 S. Description:

In 2006, Draft Environmental Impact Reports (DEIRs) were released for public review and comment for the expansion and time extension of three existing aggregate mines in Grimes Canyon located on SR-23 midway between Fillmore and Moorpark.  The Final Environmental Impact Reports (FEIRs) are now available for public review.

Hard copies of the FEIRs are available for review at the Fillmore Library (502 2nd Street, Fillmore), the Moorpark library (699 Moorpark Avenue, Moorpark) and the Ventura County Planning Division (800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA 93009).  Free CDs of the EIRs and the traffic study may be obtained from the project case planner, Scott Ellison, at (805) 654-2495 (scott.ellison@ventura.org).

The Ventura County Environmental Report Review Committee (ERRC) will consider these FEIRs at a public hearing on July 15, 2009,  at 1:30 pm in Room 344 (Multi-Purpose Room) of the Hall of Administration at the above address.  The public is invited to present verbal testimony at the hearing or provide written comments to Mr. Ellison at the above address prior to the meeting.  The ERRC is a multiple-agency committee of County staff members which is responsible for making a recommendation on the technical and legal adequacy of EIRs to the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission is the EIR certifying body for these projects.  The EIRs will not be forwarded to the Planning Commission until ERRC determines that the EIRs are adequate.

The date of the Planning Commission hearing has not been determined, however, a legal notice will be published prior to the meeting.  Please contact Mr. Ellison if you have any questions about the FEIR, hearing process, or would like to be put on the notification list.
